As a student, constantly developing my skills, I feel like it is important to keep my portfolio up to date and showcase my constantly improving skills and developing work. As I was recently on the hunt for a new internship, I used this as the perfect opportunity to give my portfolio a makeover! It had been a good 4/5 months since I had looked through my work and when I did, I knew I could do so much better.
It was like looking at it with a fresh set of eyes. Each page I took, played around with and eventually came to a better layout, even going back and improving some of my technical drawings. Alongside this, I added in a new page, showcasing some of the work that I had completed during my time at my internship. I thought I would share this makeover process, showing the old and the new pages together, allowing the changes to be appreciated even more.
I’m glad I did this process and it has left me feeling more confident about my work and my abilities. It has also gone on to help me secure two internships and been offered two more. I am looking forward to adding even more to my portfolio as I complete more work in the future.
Absence Of Paper
Brand new page of my internship work
Reebok
For my Reebok pages, I took the colour out of the technical drawings, before splitting the illustrations and the technical drawings to separate pages. I also added a short heading to explain what the project was about, so employers could understand my work more. I did this step throughout my whole portfolio.
Industrial Standards
For this project I rearranged the pages, making my work bigger, eliminating more of the white space on the page, making it more presentable. (Old top. New bottom)
Redress
I felt that this project was taking up too much space in my portfolio, so I decided to combine the three design pages. I took just the front views of both the illustrations and technical and put these together with the fabric swatches to create one final page.
Psychotropical
Again this was another project where I felt the three pages could be reduced. I decided to combine the first two pages and give it a more finished look, rather than out of my sketchbook. For the final page, I decided to add another photo as well as enlarging the images.
