I had a very different working schedule during week 4, being based at home instead of the London studio. Although it was nice to not have to commute and to be in the comfort of my own home, I did find it harder to concentrate and with not having a set working area, it meant I wasn’t in full work mode. However with work being sent through regularly, it meant that I had to try my hardest to get on with it.
One of the priority jobs that I was given was to update all of the technical files and spec packs. After a recent label change, it now meant that every single one of the technical documents was out of date, so I had to work my way through each garment making these alterations. Being four weeks into my internship, I can see how I’ve begun to get my Illustrator skills back, meaning that I was able to easily make these changes, without it taking up too much time. I had to try and prioritise my time throughout the week, which I found fairly easy to do and enjoyed the constant changing schedule.
Another one of my jobs this week was researching. One part for a new charity collaboration idea, the other being general market research. I found this to be quite a challenge. Although I have done some research before, I haven’t ever had to do anything as specific as this. Left to my own devices, I needed to find similar brands who focus on selling unique cotton shirts. I quickly learnt that one of the best ways to do this was by scrolling through online retailers shirt pages. I managed to come across a few and pulled all of the information together into a spreadsheet, with a supporting visual presentation.
With work drying up towards the end of the week, is gave me time to work on my personal website. For this blog I wanted to create a new website for the base of it, making it tailored for my brand and portfolio. It was good fun playing around with the layout and I noticed how the smallest changes can make big differences to the final look and feel. For the background image I decided to create my own photo rather than dragging one from the Internet, so I spend a few hours putting together a flat lay for this feature. Although there is still more I would like to add, I am pleased with the way my website is taking shape so far.
