View Magazine - Henry Bertrand Week 6

There is something glamourous about slowly leafing through a thick glossy magazine. It can make you lose yourself in a feeling of thoughts and happiness. Absorbing what is on the luxury pages in front of you.

What does hit the gut though is the price of some of those magazines! Especially after looking into buying a View magazine and seeing the price of £50 flash in front of me! However luckily for me the team have their own subscription to the magazine and although they are very previous about keeping the pages in pristine condition, I was allowed to spend an while when we were quiet having a look through.

View Magazine

The magazine itself focuses on the textile industry, focusing on the upcoming trends and fabrics to follow alongside it. The edition that I got to look at featured; Season in Review A/W19-20, Season in Focus SS20 and Forward View A/W20/21. It was the perfect opportunity to get some research in about the fabric trends that would appear for the next year, from glowing colours and glitching prints to new knits and dye processes. Each page held a wealth of knowledge and knowing that I would not be able remember or take in all of what I was reading; I made sure to photograph the key pages for reference later on.

Colour Trend

Colour Trend

Some of my favourite pages of the magazine were Pantone colour trend pages. The colours were displayed in unique ways, a creative flat lay showing the colour card with materials in a variety of textures and mediums. Below them presented a colour scale, showing the popularity of how much the different colours were going to be focused on in the new season. It was an inspiring way to view the colours and the minimalist lay made it even more memorable. The other pages that stuck out to be were the fabric lays. Different worldwide brands are invited to send in fabric samples to match to the trends. These are then layered together in colour groups and presented. Henry Bertrand is one of the companies lucky enough to get a feature on these pages and it was fun to recognise and be able to name the fabrics shown in this issue.

Fabric Lay

This week while I was at work, they were selecting the fabrics ready to be sent over. Once selected, I was asked to cut and overlock the pieces ready for sending. I hope that I will get to see the next magazine at some point with the new selected fabrics in! Let’s hope that I can find it in a shop somewhere to save me being left the £50 out of pocket!
