This time next week will be the official start of my placement year. After a summer of working full time at an online retailer, I’m ready for a change. I’m looking forward to no longer packing orders and being able to be creative again!
When I started university, I knew that I definitely wanted to take the professional enhancement year, as I knew it would be a huge step in helping my career. For me the year is about opening up possibilities and pushing myself to learn and network as much as possible. When I came across the internship at Absence of Paper, I knew it was the perfect fit for me. I will be working with the designer in her studio, doing everything from design, pattern cutting, sample making, technicals and also the costings. I will also get the chance to go to head office and see how the team work alongside PR and marketing. I am so pleased to have this opportunity and I think it will be a huge step in my career development. This internship runs for 6 months, with the chance to stay on for longer if I wish. I am going to see if there are any shorter internships that I could do at the end of my 6 months. I am currently looking at costume internships, at the National Theatre and one at Angles, which I think will be good experience across another area.
I can’t wait to see what the next 12 months has to hold for me and my career.
